Play pool to be Cool!

Day before yesterday I took a taxi from 34th Penn station to the BMCC, the driver was a Bengali, I got to know because when I asked him, “do you want go to BMCC?” he replied, “are bhai aisha boshen kono shomossha nai!” well he got it that I am also a Bengali, may be I have the Bengali look in my face and attitude. Anyway, then he started by asking, which village I am from, how many brothers and sisters, why I am here, for how many years, what do I do, what my father does etc etc.

Then he told me that he knows my father and all of his friends in Biman, my father and him used to know each other because they are colleagues so he is my uncle. And also he knows this guy in Dhaka, that guy in NY these MP is his choto bhai, and some IGP is his relative.

I was like huh! Who the hell is this guy and why he is asking me all these questions and why he is telling me all these thing? I realized it was nothing but putting his status in front of me with a little hope that I will honor him because of he knows so many people and may be he is something. I think that’s kinda common showing off attitude among all the or atleast most of the people.

Bangladesh and Bangladeshi people got changed in a huge way in last few years. Last time I remember when I went to Dhaka. I met so many “YO YO” type people. I saw playing pool is very cool in Dhaka now, few people are there who really love to play pool and most of them who really like to say, “I play pool”. We have a great thing inside us that we can adopt other nation or other society’s value very quickly. But we have a lack in their, we cannot adopt the right one. So many people I’ve seen they want to follow western culture, but follow what from the culture? Mostly their ghetto culture, like “yo wassup MOFO”, “oh no Jesus” etc. They will take suppose of the HI with FI way because its so called cool. But they wont be able to pick that how that become cool, well I am making no sense. Give an example, how USA is such a great country? Is it a great country? Maybe! Yes ! No! …. I do not know.. whatever it is, for me what I saw USA is not so great in technology, not in management but they are great in marketing. They can sell a piece of shit to the market as it’s a piece of gold. We cannot take that part from USA. We listen western music, hiphop, rock, heavy metal because those looks great and cool but we don’t follow those musicians that how they become that cool. What kind of struggle they did in their life or how much hard work they have done to achieve something like that.

I’ve seen people who went to 1st world country and they quickly adopt their way of talking, way of dressing, way of partying but could not adopt the way of having fun in a cool way or way of having open mind to everything. Oops , on that time we will be like : nop we can’t, we are Bangladeshi, we have to maintain our own culture. I donno why but I could not do that, I think I am dumb that I could not learn English properly ( well I donno bangle properly as well, that makes me confused). I never thought that can be a big deal. Well still I do not find that as a big deal because, when I am talking to a learned person or any person whose 1st language is English, they admire that I am from a country where its not my 1st language but still we can communicate pretty well, to do that I don have to learn English with American accent. On that time, I do not feel any problem talking in English. But whenever I talk to some desi guy, they will try to find my mistake with grammer, proper vocabulary missing etc etc, sometime they will laugh or sometime they will think how khaat I am.

Well forget about all these, get back to the starting point, I think people really like to show off. Its really matters that who you know if you want to be in such a status, but it does not matter to people what you know and how you know.
